Any non-profit organization is only as good as its volunteers. The Gateway Area Humane Society is always looking for enthusiastic animal lovers willing to work for the cause – the animals.

Top Reasons to Volunteer with the Gateway Area Humane Society: Make a Difference in your community and help animals!

  • Be Part of the Solution. You’ll join a network of people working to make Montgomery County safe and more humane for cats and dogs. You’ll make the jobs of everyone working for the animals a little easier by lending a hand and spreading the message of responsible pet ownership and animal protection.
  • Start Something New. We are always welcoming new input and ideas. Perhaps you will have a fundraising idea that has not been thought of!
  • Get warm fuzzies. You’ll never find a more grateful and accepting comrade than an animal you’ve comforted.
  • Keep Good Company. You’ll make lots of new friends – and not just the four legged kind. Working side by side with people who share similar interests can forge lifelong friendships.
  • Enjoy a wagging tail, a purr, and a smile. Didn’t someone once say that the best things in life are free?
  • Meet the new you. You’ll discover skills you never knew you had, and you may be surprised at what you’re capable of achieving.

We are always in need of caring people to volunteer- we have a variety of duties and tasks that we can always use help with!

  • Socialize Animals: If you have a bit of free time, come down to the Humane Society and walk or play ball with a dog, brush a dog, or snuggle a kitten. Every minute spent with an animal is important! Socialization boosts the animals spirits, and more importantly increases their chances for adoption.

  • Adoption Events: GAHS regularly attends adoption events at PetSmart in Lexington. Help us take pets to these and other off-site adoption events to help them find their forever homes.

  • Fundraising: LPHS has several fundraising events throughout the year. These events take an enormous amount of planning, networking, volunteer time, and talent. If you are interested in volunteering your talent and or time, we are in desperate need of a fundraising committee, a number of helpers, and anyone with a love for animals!

  • Spay/Neuter Program: Our Spay/Neuter Program is absolutely crucial to keeping the number of homeless dogs and cats down in Montgomery County and surrounding areas. Volunteers are always needed to help coordinate and work out clinics.  Clinics are always a lot of fun and are quite rewarding.
